lower garden district

Nestled between the stately Victorian and Greek Revival mansions of the Garden District and the bustling Central Business District (or “CBD”), the historic Lower Garden District is a lively mix of urban excitement and Uptown elegance. This stretch of Magazine Street is home to some of the city’s most beloved restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and shopping, with the Convention Center, French Quarter, Coliseum Square, museums, and art galleries mere blocks away.

design

Under the careful eye of Logan Killen Interiors, the owners of Luna immersed themselves in every design decision, from material sourcing to spatial flow. Together, they crafted a visual language that honors the home’s Italianate roots with soaring double galleries, original plasterwork, and heart-pine floors, while weaving in modern touches like custom lighting and layered textures. The result is a soulful, storied residence where heritage and contemporary comfort meet in quiet harmony.

  • 1746 Prytania Street was reconstructed as a single-family home between 1910 and 1928 in a Neoclassical Revival style with subtle Craftsman influences—an architectural blend typical of the circa 1918 Lower Garden District. Remnants of the property’s earlier history remain, including a rear structure that once housed a cabinet and upholstery shop dating back to the mid-1800s. This rare layering of form and function reflects the site’s evolution from early craftsmanship to refined residential living.

  • Lyra’s sun-drenched eat-in kitchen pairs timeless materials with professional-grade function. Outfitted with high-end Italian appliances, a commercial exhaust hood, Heath Ceramics serving-ware and custom cabinetry by Toulouse Street Millworks, the space features a mix of marble and soapstone counters—combining warmth, utility, and quiet elegance in one inviting setting.

  • Lyra’s elegant foyer welcomes guests with soft, creamy pink walls and a beautifully preserved original staircase that curves gracefully to the upper bedrooms. The entry flows effortlessly into the kitchen straight ahead, with the front parlor just off to the right—a warm and inviting introduction to the home’s historic charm.

  • Tucked into a sunny corner of the kitchen, Lyra’s breakfast banquette offers a cozy spot for morning coffee or casual meals. With floral-upholstered seating for five and a marble-topped table at its center, it’s a charming blend of comfort and elegance

  • Just off the foyer, Lyra’s parlor unfolds with quiet grandeur—soaring ceilings, a decorative fireplace, and custom-upholstered seating. Designed to welcome and gather, featuring a 75" flat screen TV—equally suited for cozy movie nights, intimate presentations, or cocktail hours that linger into the evening.

  • The Prytania King Suite is Lyra’s largest bedroom—an airy, light-filled retreat overlooking the oaks of Prytania Street. Anchored by a custom bed from local maker Doorman Designs, the suite features blackout curtains, a shared balcony, and an ensuite bath with a walk-in shower. Thoughtful touches include 100% cotton linens, a sound machine, Bluetooth radio, and botanical toiletries.

  • The Prytania King Suite bathroom is a sun-drenched space where historic charm meets modern comfort. A thoughtful mosaic tile motif nods to the home’s past, while a spacious walk-in shower, 100% cotton towels, and botanical soaps by Sangre de Fruta offer a luxurious, spa-like experience.

  • An elegant king room with shared access to the balcony facing prytania, sound machine, bluetooth radio, black and black out curtains.

  • The shared bathroom on the second floor of the Lyra Townhouse—conveniently located between Bedrooms 2 and 3—offers a bright, well-appointed space with a walk-in shower, spacious layout, and thoughtful amenities. Outfitted with 100% cotton towels and botanical soaps by Sangre de Fruta, it brings a sense of calm and care to this shared corner of the home

  • Tucked just off the second-floor hallway of the Lyra Townhouse, the Twin Room is a charming retreat featuring two twin beds, an original decorative fireplace, and antique furnishings that echo the home’s historic character. Ideal for children, friends, or solo travelers, it shares a nearby bathroom with Room 2—balancing privacy with connection in a beautifully layered space.

  • Rooms 4-9 feature Nespresso coffee & espresso machine, mini-fridge/freezer, 42” Flatscreen TV, bluetooth radio, black out curtains, and botanical toiletries.

  • Just off the kitchen, Luna’s wet bar is designed for effortless entertaining—stocked with elegant glassware and tucked neatly into a custom-built nook, it’s the perfect spot for mixing a cocktail or pouring a glass of wine before heading out to the courtyard.

  • Lyra’s bluestone courtyard offers a private, elegant setting for outdoor gatherings. With café seating and natural charm, it’s ideal for a cocktail hour, reception, or alfresco dinner.

  • Each room at Lyra is thoughtfully stocked with an armoire containing a clothing steamer, sound machine, charging station, hair dryer, yoga mat and blocks, pool towels, and custom Dear Valentine x Lehka robes—everything you need for a comfortable and restorative stay

  • Lyra features several original fireplaces throughout the home—once functional and used as the primary source of heat, now sealed and preserved as decorative elements. These mantels and surrounds, rich with historic character, offer a quiet reminder of the home's 19th-century roots.

  • Luna’s interiors are layered with designer finishes, including a historically inspired color palette and detailed tile patterns by Logan Killen Interiors, and custom millwork by Toulouse St. Millworks throughout.

  • A sunny courtyard-facing suite accessed through one of the homes two exterior galleries. Rooms 4-9 feature king or Queen beds, ensuite bathrooms with showers, 100% cotton linens, sound machine, Nespresso coffee & espresso machine, 42” Flatscreen TV, bluetooth radio, black out curtains, and botanical toiletries.

  • Lyra’s private courtyard, paved in Pennsylvania bluestone, offers a lush retreat with a serene plunge pool and comfortable daybeds for lounging. Lined by the Courtyard Suites, it creates a seamless indoor-outdoor experience for guests.
